Move with greater ease. Reconnect with your body. Support your recovery.

Our bodies are beautifully interconnected, and when we're experiencing pain, injury, or chronic muscle tension, even the simplest movements can begin to feel difficult.

At Inner Essence Wellness, I believe that healing is about more than simply quieting pain. It's about understanding what our bodies are communicating, addressing the patterns that may be contributing to discomfort, and creating the right conditions for greater ease and balance.

Through sports acupuncture in Sherwood Park, I combine the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a focused, anatomical approach to treating muscular pain, tension, and dysfunction.

What Is Sports Acupuncture?

Sports acupuncture brings together traditional acupuncture principles with a modern understanding of muscles, nerves, and movement.

Using fine, sterile acupuncture needles, treatment can target areas of muscular tension, trigger points, and motor points to help manage pain, improve mobility, and support the body's recovery process.

Whether you're an athlete, someone who spends long hours at a desk, or simply someone who wants to move through life with less discomfort, treatment is thoughtfully tailored to your individual needs.

Motor Point Acupuncture, Dry Needling & IMS: What's the Difference?

You may have heard of treatments called dry needling or intramuscular stimulation (IMS), particularly in physiotherapy and pain-management settings.

These approaches share important similarities with motor point acupuncture. All involve the use of fine, solid needles to stimulate specific tissues, muscles, or neuromuscular structures.

Motor point acupuncture focuses on areas where a motor nerve communicates with a muscle. Stimulating these points produces a muscular response that helps to address pain, tension, and altered muscle function.

Dry needling often targets myofascial trigger points, while IMS is commonly associated with approaches to persistent muscular and neuropathic pain.

Although the terminology and treatment methods may differ, these techniques overlap in how they stimulate muscles and the nervous system. Motor point acupuncture is one of the needling approaches I incorporate into my treatments.

What matters most to me isn't simply the name of the technique, but understanding your body, your symptoms, and which approach is most appropriate for you.

What Can Sports Acupuncture Help With?

Sports acupuncture may be helpful in managing a variety of musculoskeletal concerns, including:

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Back pain and muscular tightness

  • Sports-related strains and overuse injuries

  • Hip and gluteal pain

  • Muscle trigger points and myofascial pain

  • Restricted mobility and muscular discomfort

  • Repetitive strain and postural tension

  • Recovery from physical activity

Every body is different, and treatment is always guided by your individual presentation, comfort, and goals.

A Whole-Body Approach to Pain & Recovery

While motor point acupuncture can be a valuable technique, it is only one part of how I approach treatment.

With over 14 years of clinical experience as a Doctor of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, I recognize that pain rarely exists in isolation.

Our movement patterns, stress, nervous system, lifestyle, and overall well-being can all influence how we experience discomfort.

Depending on your needs, I may combine motor point acupuncture with traditional acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, and other supportive techniques.

My intention is not simply to chase symptoms, but to work alongside you in understanding your body and supporting meaningful, sustainable improvements in how you feel and move.

Pain can change the way we move, work, rest, and experience the world around us. But it doesn't have to define our relationship with our bodies.

If you're looking for sports acupuncture in Sherwood Park, I'd be honoured to support you in finding greater comfort, confidence, and connection through movement.
