The Art of Letting Go: Welcoming the Metal Element

Equinox Edition • Sept 2026
Seasonal Balance • Acupuncture Sherwood Park
The fall equinox is a quiet moment of balance, a brief pause when light and darkness meet as equals before the days begin to grow shorter. It reminds us that balance is not something we find once and hold onto forever. It is something we return to, gently and repeatedly, as life and the seasons change around us.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn carries the energy of turning inward. After the expansiveness and activity of summer, nature begins to soften, conserve, and let go. We are invited to do the same, not by withdrawing from life, but by becoming more thoughtful about where we place our energy and what we carry forward.
Autumn is connected with the Metal element and the Lung and Large Intestine systems. The Lungs receive the breath and what nourishes us, while the Large Intestine helps us release what the body no longer needs. Together, they reflect one of autumn’s deeper lessons: we need both the ability to take in and the willingness to let go.
The emotion associated with this season is grief. Sometimes autumn brings old feelings a little closer to the surface—not because anything is wrong, but because this season naturally asks us to notice what has changed. Like the trees releasing their leaves, we can honour what has been while creating space for what is still becoming.

Gentle Self-Care Tips
Choose more warm, cooked meals such as soups, stews, roasted vegetables, squash, root vegetables, oats, rice, pears, and apples.
Keep your neck and upper back protected from cool wind with a scarf or an extra layer.
Support autumn dryness with plenty of fluids and nourishing foods such as pears, honey, sesame seeds, almonds, apples, and broths.
Make space for your breath through gentle movement, time outdoors, yoga, meditation, or a few slow breaths between the busier parts of your day.
Allow your routines to soften with the season. Earlier evenings, consistent sleep, and quiet moments can help the body adjust to shorter days.
Seasonal wellness does not need to become another list of things to accomplish. It can be much simpler than that: paying attention, moving a little more slowly, and meeting yourself where you are. As the trees so beautifully remind us, letting go does not always mean losing something. Sometimes it is how we make space for rest, renewal, and whatever comes next.
A Personal Note from Jen
Autumn Update
This summer, I moved my home back to Sherwood Park, and I feel so grateful to be closer to the community I love. There is something special about returning back to the Park. I have loved reconnecting with familiar places, people, and the rhythms of a community that has always felt meaningful to me.
Being back home has also allowed me to increase my clinic hours a little, creating more opportunities for you to book appointments and make space for your health and well-being.
I am deeply grateful for your continued support, referrals, and the trust you place in me. Inner Essence Wellness has grown so beautifully because of this community, and I feel honoured to continue walking alongside you in this next season
I am also happy to announce that I can now offer direct billing to GreenShield and Canadian Benefit Providers. Coverage varies between plans, so please confirm your acupuncture benefits directly with your provider before your appointment.

New Clinic Offering
Cosmetic Acupuncture & Facial Rejuvenation
Many of you have been patiently waiting for this announcement, and I am so excited to share that I have officially completed my cosmetic acupuncture training!
I have always believed that true wellness is about more than how we look. It is about how we feel in our bodies, how we move through the world, and whether we can pause long enough to care for ourselves. Cosmetic acupuncture brings these ideas together in a gentle, holistic, and restorative way.
Imagine taking a quiet pause from the busyness of the season: soft lighting, calming scents, gentle facial massage, warm towels, and a deeply relaxing treatment designed to support both your skin and your whole body.
Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural, whole-body approach to supporting healthy, vibrant skin. Rather than treating only the face, each session also addresses the body and nervous system according to your individual needs.
Specialized facial needles are combined with traditional body acupuncture, facial massage, gua sha, and gentle facial cupping. The result is a restorative treatment that supports the skin while encouraging relaxation, circulation, and balance from within.
Cosmetic Acupuncture May Help:
Soften the appearance of fine lines
Support collagen production and skin elasticity
Improve facial circulation and skin tone
Reduce facial tension and puffiness
Support a brighter, more refreshed complexion
Promote relaxation and overall well-being
Think of it as a seasonal reset for your skin and nervous system—a chance to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and receive a little nurturing as we move into the cooler months.
Like many meaningful changes, the results of cosmetic acupuncture build gradually over time. Most people begin with one treatment per week for approximately 6-8 weeks, followed by maintenance appointments every 4–8 weeks. Your ideal treatment plan may vary depending on your skin, age, goals, and overall health.
Cosmetic Acupuncture Pricing
Initial Treatment: $160 for 90 minutes
This extended appointment includes a detailed consultation and your first treatment.
If you are already an existing client, you will still need to book the 90-minute initial appointment so we have enough time to discuss your skincare goals and complete the full treatment. As a thank-you, your initial cosmetic acupuncture treatment will be discounted to $145.
Follow-Up Treatments: $145 for 75 minutes
Please note: If you have recently received Botox or dermal fillers, you will need to wait at least two weeks before receiving cosmetic acupuncture.
Nurture Your Essence This Autumn
Whether you are looking for support with stress, pain, energy, seasonal wellness, or simply a little time to care for yourself, I would love to welcome you into the clinic this autumn.
Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is give ourselves permission to slow down and receive.
